Who am I

I'm Raúl,
a UX designer based in Amsterdam.

With +5 of experience as a UI/UX designer, I've built a strong foundation through freelancing and full-time roles. My freelance work sharpened my UI skills, while my full-time positions deepened my expertise in UX design, research, and writing. Passionate about visual design, I've also honed my graphic design skills along the way.

Working together.

I strongly believe each interaction client-design is unique, so we'll figure out that along the way. However, this is a general list of how our interaction will be.

  • 1
    Explore and define

Forward me the project brief, inspiration, links to check, list of competitors or, anything you think it will support our conversation and might help me start.

From here on, I will start with some questions to get exactly what you need. After that I will research any extra information and make sure everything is clear.

  • 2
    Decide and agree

Next, we'll make sure we're on the same page in every aspect. That means we know what needs to be done, we agree on timelines and quotes, and we have an estimate on when it's going to be done.

    Now it's time to start!

  • 3
    Create and iterate over

Design is an iterative process. I'll get something done, then I'll review it, then I'll ask you for feedback, and we continue polishing the final result.

We can go over these steps as often as you need for the final result to be as fitting as you envisioned it.

  • 4
    Deliver and maintain

So now we have a final result. We agree on the hand-off specifications and you will receive the definitive version.

But is this the end of our relationship? It doesn't have to.
I will still stick around for a couple of weeks to provide you support.

Skills.

Basically the list of things I am able to do for you

Kinds of designs
Mobile apps

Full app design including:

  • Wireframing
  • Prototype
  • Hand-off in a tool of choice

Experienced in Android and iPhone, and familiar with their design principles.

Web apps

Either full web platforms that will serve as a software product, or landing pages where you can feature your work on a portfolio-like fashion, or advertise your products to the public.

Presentations

Templates you can share or maybe specific slides for a pitch, whatever you need.
Available for Google Slides, Microsoft Powerpoint or Apple's Keynote.

Physical graphics

Promotional material like:

  • Brochures
  • Posters
  • Visit cards
  • Landyards

Also more advanced items like:

  • Books/Booklets
  • Visit cards
Hardware

The logic of a physical object you interact with is not that different from a screen layout after all.
For this field, I can design the layout that's printed/carved on the final product.

Miscellaneous

Layouts and styling of:

  • Letters
  • Covers
  • Envelopes
  • Research papers

Also technical designs that require a logical construction like:

  • SOPs
  • Documentation
  • User guides
Advanced skillset
Mockups
Prototyping
UX Documentation
UX Research
UX Testing
Wireframing

Work ethic.

6 reasons why I consider I stand out.
These are behaviours and qualities I promise to keep during our connection

1

Fully transparent

I will do my best to inform you about everything that is happening during our relationship.

Project progress

You'll have access to a live document where you can see the current status of the designs. This is possible when working with Figma. If we work with any other tool, I can send you periodic updates through screenshots or alike.

Payment

A detailed report will be available for you at the start of the project, and it will specify where does each and every cent go.

2

Meticulous with details

I like taking care of my workflow before it turns into a complete chaos of non-aligned shapes or a beautiful party of inconsistent UI elements.

Reusable components

You'll have access to a live document where you can see the current status of the designs.

Naming

Think about the person who receives the handoff, or a potentially new designer reading the design file structure. Better reading a layer named  "Calendar access card" than a "Frame 2 Copy", right?
And same goes for folders, files and pages, organisation. I'll get everything nice and simple for you.

3

Adaptable to you

When and how are you going to receive the designs? Happy you asked!

Once we agreed that a design version is ready to be forwarded to your developers, I will prepare the export for any tool you may choose.

Using the tools you choose

Personally, I am most familiar with Zeplin and InVision, but I've also played with MarvelApp or ZeroHeight, so feel free to suggest any tool that might suit you better, even if it's new. I'd love to learn it!

Sharing the content you choose

Icons, color palette, reusable components, artwork or decorative elements, specific sizes... Every resource you need to make the result look exactly like the designs.

4

Proactive notifications

I can keep you updated on various events like design commencement, progress stages, invoice delivery, and more upon your preference.
Basic support such as answering queries will also be included:

Some will be an email...

When I'll need to update or ask you about something, I'll make sure to put it in writing.

... but some can be a call

No problem with having a chat over a cup of coffee. Or two or three.

5

Guidance where you need it

Say you need a poster or brochure but aren't savvy with printing or maintaining a style library for developers, I can help.
With my broad design experience, I'll guide you through processes, research best options like printing specs for business cards, and more.
