The Story

Context

"Informática Para Tod@s" or IPT is a Spanish national event that includes talks, discussion panels, poster sessions, workshops and a job fair, among others, where we count on the participation of all those groups that want to promote with us the participation of women in the technology sector.

IPT stands for "Informática Para Tod@s", translated as Computer Science for Everybody or Computer Science for All. The "@" symbol in the text represents a solution for using the feminine and the masculine version of the word "Todos" (All in English). In Spanish the word All can be feminine or masculine, i.e. "Todas" or "Todos", respectively. By using an "@" we feel like we are using an A and a O at the same time because we want to increase inclusion as much as possible. Besides, this being a Computer science project, the "@" fits just well!

Event's needs

I started collaborating as an (not so experienced) designer in this project since the very first edition in 2016. As a small conference, the needs of design were not too high: A logo to start with, some posters for promotion and brochures to display the event's agenda.

As the event grew bigger, the design became more specialised too: We started introducing banners for each social networks, roll-ups, signs to guide the attendees to the event hall, lanyards and variations of the agenda. Promotion and call to action material also got a boost! We got dedicated illustrations for social media posts, custom-made lanyards, personalised slides for each talk, bookmarks, t-shirts... We even started having illustrations displaying data about our statistics!

My contribution

All the designs available in the link down below have been created by me. This work has been supported and supervised by the management team, from which I was getting instructions of the needs, as well as the freedom to create and propose any element of design that would help us build a cool event.

My contribution to the team effort

As a designer, I was tasked with creating all graphics for the event dedicated to promoting women's roles in Computer science. Through my work, I was able to contribute to the event's success by fulfilling a range of responsibilities, including:

  1. Designing and developing all necessary graphics for the event's website and social media, such as banners, icons, images or any other visual element required.
  2. Creating social media graphics that can be used to promote the event on different social media platforms.
  3. Designing and creating printed materials such as posters, flyers, brochures, and handouts to distribute to potential attendees and sponsors.
  4. Developing presentations and slides for our presenters, including templates for them to use if necessary.
  5. Collaborating with the event organizers to ensure all graphics align with the event's overall vision and goals.
  6. Ensuring that all graphics adhere to any brand guidelines or visual standards established by the event organizers.
  7. Designing personalized merchandising for every attendant.

The Designs

As part of our workflow as a team, the designs I had done were uploaded to InVision to collect feedback and for approval. As a result, the collection of designs increased enough to have a full board dedicated to it.

As an extra, I've added some background information to each design element so that you can see which where the ideas flowing through my mind at that moment, and which was the idea of the whole project :)
